Villa Ada – My personal sport stadium ;-)

Describing my living situation I have always been pointing out the large park nearby. Like hardly all the parks here, also Villa Ada, is surrounded by a wall! However that is a big advantage over the fenced parks, since the cars’ emissions don’t get through. That fact guarantees a very good air quality on the inside, which makes the area perfect for sports activities.

The park’s area is just huge! You can stand in the middle of the park, without reaching an end with your eyes ;-) In comparison to the Stadtpark in Graz, Villa Ada seems to be left wilder. However it is is maintained to some degree, which means the grass is cut and the hedges are kept in shape.

While running you will notice the constant up and down. The roads are not paved. Therefore the running experience is nice and less of the problem for the feet! Although that is of concern to some people, especially the holes in the runway after rain ( “Se cadessi in Villa Ada, non mi chiamare”) ;-) , jogging there is a great experience!

Since Villa Ada, however, is really big and spacious, one could almost get lost in it. Although I am not a fan of running with cell phone, last time I would have been happy to have a compass with me ;-) But apart form being in technology I am still a boy from mother nature, and therefore know how to estimate the directions using the sun’s actual position and a time estimate. Don’t be concerned I made my way out within a few minutes, getting to one of the few entrances :-)

When I write about running, something tells me to go for it! And that is, what I gonna do now!

Cheers!

Still wish you a beautiful Saturday!

First day

Hey guys, have fun with the google talk. If you really want to know what happened, send a comment, and I gonna translate from German. I actually did not think my German were that colloquial, and thought google translation would have been improved, yet!
ADVICE for first time users, other articles are available in English (i.e. NOT google talk)

Translated with Google translation, be aware of that, when reading!!

I arrived in Rome. Even very punctual, and then went straight to a hostel. I.e. I did not go, he could make (3x underscore) a taxi (Faketaxi). Once I take on me he has cheated with the price but that was me with all the baggage it does not matter. So I came to my unreserved hostel, which was promptly filled. However, they referred me to another just around the corner from which this article comes from my head through my fingers from the keyboard by the computer via the modem and then through the air into the great cloud, and then over an equally long way to you! ;-)

So I was left standing at the second hostel. From there I went towards San Giovanni to me a little feet in a not represented to me already a bit familiar (because of the name) area. This walk I took advantage of all the possible Contact the owner by telephone and agree that tour dates.

No sooner said than done, however, looked only one out there! So I went back to the hostel and sat down after a wonderful shower (I could until that date (13.30) in my room and the luggage I was allowed, however, already dortlassen) moving again! Only in the Metro station referred to me but I recognized the considerable distance from the center, and almost everything in Rome ;-) I looked at the house anyway, but ultimately decided to not take them too. ;-) Was an extra 15 minutes away from the subway!

Hmm shame, so weitersuchen! Since I was a little weary, I went to the hostel and settled down there a time. But I wanted to let-up in housing yet, and yet least visited an apartment on that first day.

So grabbed my laptop and took the search to easystanza (online rental market) up again. Soon I found an apartment in an excellent location right next to the Villa Ada! Since I’ve fallen in love with another Roman visit to this neighborhood, I got the offer so very welcome :-) I called and agreed to the appointment for 18.00. After little sleep and a short bus ride (perfect, since the tourists in general, with the subway ride, and just like this except not a typical tourist area) is ahead of me when I arrived at the house said.

When step I liked it very much. I also learned just a couple of roommates. A French woman, another Italian, and now comes it :-) an Austrian woman was somehow all at once homely and very friendly. After a few questions and answers everybody, I agreed with Andrea (the one up there now) then lived, and give him the next day to reply.

I already felt that what is and went on a leisurely aperitif Pompi (Re di), Roma and later still in the Druid’s Dan, who I have already known Irish pub near Santa Maria Maggiore. There I came even with the Irish bartenders and an American guest in conversation. At some point, but then I was tired and went back to the hostel to the wonderful first day with a delicious sleep decide.

Siracusa

Agrigento – Valley of the temples

The town of Agrigento is a rather normal place. One street where people go around for shopping in the evening, some churches and lots of buildings from seventies. Would not say, it was that beautiful for itself… the interesting part of Agrigento is the nearby Valley, where lots of old temple structures where found. All around archaeologic sights surrounded  by the beautiful nature. Agrigento is situated near the southern coast of Sicily. And between coast and town there is the valley. Furthermore in addition to the temples a lot of stuff like vases, mosaiks, statues, that would not have survived outside, were collected and can be visited in the nearby museum.

Giorgio’s house

So at the end of the last article I was going to get to know my host Giorgio. We met at the station of Orleans as we had agreed. It was wonderful to be back in the south after some nordic days in Rome ;-)

Giorgio was very friendly and made me feel at home immediately :-) Second question he asked was: would you like an ice-cream. What a warm welcome to Palermo!

After eating ice-cream at a nearby but nevertheless delicious Gelateria, we went home to the B&B. A great place I loved immediately. It was a very simple but charmingly furnished apartment with 4 bed-rooms, a living-room, two bathrooms, a kitchen and lots of balconies. We still are in the south!

Giorgio lives in another place, thus he comes to the apartment every morning to prepare the breakfast. Breakfast is served in the living-room for all the inhabitants and a good opportunity to get to know everyone.

There was a couple from Sweden and a french Family from Paris. The communication was an interesting mix of French, Italian, English and Swedish :-)

Giorgio’s House, as found out later, is one of the few in Palermo, that organize Trekking tours and other events in Palermo by night.

When I arrived I did not know about that, for I had booked very late at the airport without reading the full description. In that moment it was more important to find a place for the night than to find a great place. However I had found both :-)

Hostel in Rome

Now, as I do have another accommodation to compare with, I want to comment the ‘Youth Station Hostel’ in Rome where I stayed for the first two nights. So, the hostel’s location is near the Piazza Bologna, which is a stop of the underground ‘B’ versus ‘Ribibbia’.

I arrived in the late afternoon without having a reservation. The hostel is rather well-known and therefore always booked out. I was lucky to get a bed in a room for 12. ;-) Another thing you have to try out once. The room had a bathroom and toilet for the 12 of us. Everyone had bed, sheets, lamp and locker at his disposal. So you got everything you need.

I would not recommend such kind of accommodation to people with light sleep, as everyone comes home whenever he wants (the reception is open 24/7), so it could happen you wake up 11 times a night.

The receptionists are very friendly and helpful. I asked how to arrive at the airport the night before my flight. ;-) It obviously was not their fault, I missed my flight! :-)
